Julia Schofield has been a Consultant Dermatologist since 1995 initially in West Hertfordshire and since 2008 at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. From 2020 to end of May 2024 Julia was NHS England clinical lead for dermatology for the National Outpatient Recovery and Transformation programme working with stakeholders to develop new ways of delivering services to people with skin conditions. She is now a clinical advisor to the programme.

In 2006 she worked with colleagues to set up a Masters programme in Clinical Dermatology at the University of Hertfordshire and more recently (2020) a Masters programme in Skin Lesions Recognition and Management. This is the only multi-professional educational programme in dermatology of it’s type and is very popular with nurses, doctors and pharmacists. The programmes have been pivotal in the training and development of extended role practitioners, particularly dermatology clinical nurse specialists, and nurse surgeons.

Julia was awarded an MBE for services to Dermatology in 2012.
