We know that innovation happens across the NHS in England everyday – the problem is that there is no way to scale and share this local innovation.

Through the launch of the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP) – solution exchange, NHS England is creating opportunities for data-led innovation in healthcare to improve efficiency and patient care.

*Please note that this is an early release of the Solution Exchange and functionality will be enhanced over the coming months.

Solutions exchange – product catalogue

The Solution Exchange is a catalogue of Products available to Trusts and ICBs (on behalf of ICSs) on the NHS Federated Data Platform.

Products currently available are:

• Referral to Treatment Validation (RTT) – facilitates RTT pathway accuracy and progression with comprehensive validation and list management.
• Inpatients Care Coordination Solution – streamlines elective care with data insights to improve theatre utilisation and support planning, improve data quality oversight and waiting list validation.
• Outpatients Care Coordination Solution – enhances clinic operations with waiting list validation, data quality tools, and forthcoming cohorting features.
• Discharge Planning (OPTICA) – is real-time tracking and task management for efficient patient discharge processes.

Products in development:

• Cancer360 – will streamline and integrate multiple data sources to control pathway management for cancer patient lists.

Many NHS organisations are already benefiting from using these locally developed / nationally commissioned products to deliver care in new and innovative ways, achieving better outcomes for patients. You can read case studies of the NHS is delivering improved care across the country.

Solution exchange – developer environment

For developers the solution exchange provides a safe and secure space to create and test new ideas to strict NHS FDP standards, using synthetic data. New innovations will be reviewed and tested for suitability before being made available in the NHS FDP Solution Exchange Product Catalogue.

How to get in touch

If you already have access to the NHS FDP:

• If you are an NHS trust or ICB with an instance of the NHS FDP, you can access the solution exchange from your homepage.

If you don’t have an instance of the NHS FDP and would like access:

• If you are an NHS trust, please register your interest using ‘NHS FDP product catalogue request’ as the subject.
• If you are an NHS developer, you can apply for access to the development area using ‘developer access request’ as the subject.
• Currently the solution exchange does not support third party products. Organisations can register their interest to be kept informed on how to submit a request for their products to be made available on the NHS FDP solution exchange when this functionality is made available.
