The NHS Universal Family programme

The NHS Universal Family (Care Leaver Covenant) programme was launched in January 2023. This followed the visible commitment made to support care leavers in to our NHS family by  , NHS chief executive when she signed the Care Leaver Covenant on behalf of all NHS organisations across England.

The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan sets out the plans to enable the us to reform how we train and work in the future. By overhauling our recruitment practices so they are flexible and meet the needs of these young people, we have a unique opportunity to do things differently. We can harness and channel talent to transform the health service. Being a truly inclusive and diverse employer that is representative of our communities means we can tackle inequalities and better support our local populations.
