On these pages you can find out more information about:

Map of Placements

These maps give the geographical locations of all placements in Oriel in the South West by the lead employer. They are subdivided into the 7 integrated care systems across the region.

The maps can be accessed via:

How to use the maps

There are two ways to view details on placements on the maps:

  1. By using the Map legend on the left-hand side
  • Clicking the grey chevron (V) for each system will expand the placement information. You can then click on a placement name to see all the details
  • You can collapse the map legend by clicking on the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the legend
  1. Clicking directly onto the markers on the map
  • You may need to zoom in to see all available placements in that area

When you click on a placement the information you are presented with is the same information contained within Oriel but does not include the programme description.

To help you distinguish different types of placements, they have been colour coded according to whether they are a single sector or multi-sector placement. Multi-sector placements are further subdivided into the type of multi-sector placement. For multi-sector placements, the location shown on the map is that of the primary site, details of the postcode of the rotation are given in the placement details. For multi-sector placements you are interested in preferencing we recommend looking at where this rotation is on a map to ensure you can travel between placement sites.

If you have any questions about this map, then please email england.wtepharmacy.sw@nhs.net

The maps can be viewed on a mobile device, but we recommend a laptop or desktop for the best experience.

Integrated Care Systems

Healthier Together is the name given to our Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Integrated Care System. Together, we will work to improve health and wellbeing, reduce inequalities, and provide integrated services for the one million people living in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Across BNSSG, we have pharmacy professionals working in a range of pharmacy practice settings including, at our two hospitals, mental health trust, a prison, over 250 community pharmacies, 20 primary care networks, a community health provider, care homes, an NHS ambulance service hub and private independent healthcare companies providing NHS care. In BNSSG we really have at it all!

This mixture of health services has enabled us to offer a rich and diverse range of foundation trainee pharmacist training places, including many innovative multisector placements. This means you can find the area(s) of pharmacy practice you would like to move into for your important foundation training placement to give you the best start to your career.

Why live in BNSSG?

Bristol is an amazingly diverse and inclusive city, with a vibrant and young feel, partly due to the two large Universities within the city. The city hosts many music venues, has several galleries and festivals that drive its creative reputation. From hot air ballooning, ‘Love Saves the Day’ music festival, to food and graffiti (taking inspiration from Bristol born artist Banksy), you will find something that you will like and enjoy in Bristol.

If you’re looking for more countryside than city life, we also have many picturesque villages and small towns in South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. This includes Weston-Super-Mare, a beautiful sea-side town with stunning beaches, great biking and walking routes and some fabulous cafes and restaurants.

With over 100 miles of coastline, both modern and historic towns, and beautiful countryside, Dorset is a great place to live and work.

Dorset has strong links between healthcare settings which offers trainees the chance to experience a variety of clinical environments during their training year. This will allow the opportunity to discover an area that the trainee is passionate about or even facilitate the development of a portfolio career consisting of a variety of roles.

From 2025, several partnerships have been set up to allow a split training year between two main placement sites, with opportunities to undertake small placements in other sectors over the course of the year. These cross-sector placements will involve time spent in Primary Care Networks/GP practices, community pharmacy, the Integrated Care Board, acute hospitals, mental health hospitals and prisons (subject to student preference and availability). There are also single sector positions available where trainees will spend most of their time at one site to develop their skills in a particular sector.

In addition to developing clinical and prescribing skills, trainees will be given the chance to develop in other areas under the supervision of highly experienced pharmacists. These areas include quality improvement, risk management, leadership, education, and training. The ‘Our Dorset’ Pharmacy network takes a collaborative approach to education and training providing support during the trainee year and beyond as your career progresses.

We hope that you consider applying for a position within Dorset to kickstart your pharmacy career.
