Vaccinations: Child Immunisation

Background

Childhood vaccinations data is published on a quarterly and annual basis by UKHSA and NHS England (formerly NHS Digital) respectively.

Quarterly data

UKHSA publish quarterly information based on COVER (Cover of Vaccinations Evaluated Rapidly). This publication presents quarterly coverage data for children in the UK who reached their first, second, or fifth birthday during the respective evaluation quarter.

The full coverage data (which is broken down by country, NHS England local team and NHS England region) is now contained in the separate data file accompanying this report along with data by upper tier local authority and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) region.

Quarterly reports published by UKHSA are available for the financial years:

For earlier quarterly reports, published by Public Health England (including Q1 of 2021 to 2022), see Cover of vaccination evaluated rapidly (COVER) programme 2021 to 2022: quarterly data (Government Web Archive).

Quarterly reports published prior to 2012 (pre-PHE) are available at: [ARCHIVED CONTENT] HPA – Quarterly Vaccine Coverage Data Tables (nationalarchives.gov.uk)

Annual data

NHS England currently publish the annual childhood vaccination statistics. This was previously produced by NHS Digital, which merged with NHS England in 2023.

The annual publication reports childhood vaccination coverage statistics for England in the respective financial year.

Data relates to the routine vaccinations offered to all children up to the age of 5 years based on the Cover of Vaccination Evaluated Rapidly (COVER) data. Additional information on children aged 2 and 3 vaccinated against seasonal flu are collected from GPs through UKHSA’s ImmForm system.

The aim is for UKHSA to take on the annual publication in the future, so all childhood vaccination publications are in the same place.
