Paediatric

Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) supports a wide range of specialities, and it is recognised that SDEC for children has existed for a long time and are in many systems already highly developed.  

Over recent years, guidance relating to SDEC has focussed on Medical, Surgical and Acute Frailty, however the Paediatric same day emergency care published in February 2024, sets guidance for system leaders, commissioners and providers who are developing or improving paediatric SDEC services to reduce reliance on overnight admissions for patients who can safely be discharged home on the same day as arrival. Highlighting the key principles and minimum standards for paediatric SDEC service, including considerations for physical infrastructure, referral and access, workforce, diagnostics, discharge, counting and coding, and patient experience.
